EC1 maintains the unique character of the industrial plant, dating back to the early 20th century but complies with the requirements of contemporary public space. It is the combination of history and modernity that attracts the attention of those users who appreciate a place not only for its look but also its climate. The phenomenal character and unique design of the institution is also evidenced by the fact that EC1 received a first place in 2013 in the prestigious Polish contest named Bryła Roku (Block/Architectural Body of the Year). As famous architect Rob Krier said ’Industrial buildings in Łodź are of unique quality! What is more, the technical elements are just beautiful. The EC1 power plant, with all its Art Nouveau details, is a fine piece of genuine architecture, much more striking that the Pompidou Centre in Paris, a false image of which has little in common with its function’.
